Ambulance Membership 101
In our model of ambulance membership, an individual, family, or household is covered for the out-of-pocket cost of ambulance service. You will still collect any insurance payment that is available, so the membership fee can be a modest amount that virtually anyone can afford. The FireMed fee in Eugene/Springfield is $62 per year, per household, for ground ambulance, or $97 per year for ground plus air, in partnership with Life Flight Network.
The service is whatever your system provides: emergency only, emergency and medically necessary non-emergency, air ambulance, etc. The coverage period is usually one year. Some programs have a single expiration date for all memberships, while some expire one year from the joining date. Some programs offer multi-year memberships and lifetime memberships.
In our program the membership fees collected cover all member transports at full payment, and still leave a net revenue to the ambulance fund. This surplus makes possible equipment purchases and training that we otherwise couldn't afford.
But the best results are not financial. A membership program makes residents of your community a part of your EMS system. As members they take pride in the high-quality service that they help you provide. Your membership will become solid supporters in your community.
You also make this high-quality service available to everyone. Anyone who cannot afford a modest annual membership fee is eligible for assistance, and has access to the service through that benefit. Pretty simple. Congratulations on having a membership program. Or call today to ask how to get started.
